Special Message

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Exactly 95 years ago from this day, 88 Oronians got together to birth what we now know as Oron Union (OU) at the residence of Chief Anwana Esin. Foremost in their minds was the development and progress of Oro. This was to be achieved via educational and health programs. They must have rightly asserted that Health is Wealth and that Education breaks down barriers of opportunity. Being established in 1925 makes her one of the oldest sociocultural organizations in Nigeria and the first East of the Niger. The story of OU is fraught with selfless service and sacrifice towards a common good. Today she boasts of several chapters outside the home chapter including ones in the diaspora (UK/Ireland and USA). As members of this great Union we must not let the labors of our heroes past be in vain. We are obligated to continue to emulate the love and selflessness of the founders. It’s okay to be divided in our approach or methods but we must remain united in our goal towards a greater Oron Nation.

Like several organizations OU hasn’t been bereft of internal wrangling and mudslinging, however we have miraculously managed to remain one indivisible people. Proud of her culture and heritage! Sons and daughters of Ukpabang I congratulate you all on your 95th anniversary as a Union. May we keep the flag flying high as we continue to help develop our community and leave it better than we met it.
